Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Photo Questions
Q: How do I upload photos?
Visit the photo upload page and follow the three-step process.
First, you'll need to have a digital photo, in JPEG format, on your computer and agree to the user agreement.
In the second step, you name your photo and identify it so other peace supporters find it. You can identify your photo easily by filling in a few blanks on our photo upload form.
Third, you have the option to have your photo added to the photo albums we'll deliver to Congress. For that, we'll need your street address.
Q: I uploaded my photo, but I don't see it.
Your photo was submitted to a moderator who will post it as soon as possible. Please review our guidelines for acceptable photos.
Q: Do I need a digital camera?
No, you don't need a digital camera, but it does make it easier. If you don't have a digital camera — or a friend with one — you can get your photos processed as a digital photo CD and upload the photos from your computer to the web site.
Q: Can I put up several photos by using the same email address?
Yes. In fact, we encourage it. If you took a few photos of yourself, your family, your community or faith group, or your pets, feel free to post several photos on the site.
Q: How do I find just the photos I posted?
You can find all of those you posted by typing your email address or a particular identifying tag you chose into the search box.
Q: Is there a limit on how many photos I can post online?
No. We do not have a formal limit, but we do encourage you not to place multiple copies of the same photo online.
If you have a new idea or show up in several different photos, don't worry. It's fine to have some duplication, as long as your photos do not become repetitive.
Q: I want to support Friends for Peace but I don't have a camera/don't want my picture taken. What do you recommend?
You can help us by signing the "Not One More Death, Not One More Dollar" letter to Congress. Sign it now at www.afsc.org/letter.
You can also help by spreading word of Friends for Peace to your friends. Use the "Send to a Friend" links to send them photos that you particularly like.
Sign Questions
Q: How do I make my own signs?
We have three options. We're flexible.
- Use our online sign generator to make your own sign. Just type in a word or two that describes who you are and you will make your own " for Peace" sign.
- Print out a blank sign as a PDF document and print it out. Then, write your word or phrase on the top of the sign to personalize it. Try to use a thick marker so people will be able to read your sign in the photo and in your window.
- We will accept hand-made signs with the phrase " for Peace," on our web site.
Q: Do you have signs in other languages than English?
Signs in other languages are coming soon. If you have a particular request, please email us using the email form on the Contact Us page.
Q: Do I need a color printer to print the sign?
No, the signs print fine in black, white, and gray. If you don't have a color printer but want to print the sign in color, you can visit a local copy center to make color printouts.
General Questions
Q: Why are you doing this?
In the United States and around the world, the majority of the public wants peace in Iraq. We've stood together for peace, but have been geographically separated.
Friends for Peace is a way to show the human face of the pro-peace majority and a way to make a positive statement together for peace in Iraq. We find a strength and inspiration in standing together for peace.
Strategically, the photos will be used to keep up pressure to end the war in Iraq. We will be delivering photo albums to Congress, along with our call to bring the troops home.
Q: Who is running this system?
Friends for Peace is a project of the American Friends Service Committee.
The American Friends Service Committee carries out service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the world. Founded by Quakers in 1917 to provide conscientious objectors with an opportunity to aid civilian war victims, AFSC's work attracts the support and partnership of people of many races, religions, and cultures.
AFSC's work is based on the Quaker belief in the worth of every person and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice. The organization's mission and achievements won worldwide recognition in 1947 when it accepted the Nobel Peace Prize with the British Friends Service Council on behalf of all Quakers.
